HEALTHY HOMEBOUND MINDSET CHALLENGE: DAY 1

Leadership Bridge Healthy Homebound Mindset Challenge - (HHM) Day 1

March 16, 2020

As we all grapple with some serious uncertainty, what is a person to do to keep from going nuts? Let’s build a Healthy Homebound Mindset together!

How it Work:  Each weekday, I will post a two-part healthy mindset challenge.  We will focus on our own mindset and how to help others – which in turn helps us too! Right now, we need connection, stay busyness tips, laughter, positive distractions and likely a pick me up so we don’t lose our minds or slap our kids. Most importantly - Let’s remember to find joy in the little things in life, lighten our mental load and even create reasons to laugh with each other.

Part 1 - Healthy Homebound Mindset (HHM) Giving to You Challenge #1 - We are all inundated with emails & information about the COVID-19, so let’s start there.  GIVE YOUR MIND A BREAK FROM THE MEDIA.  Just like a dealer once told a dear friend I was with in Vegas (true story) “Step away from the ATM” – we need to step away from the TV.

How To Do This? Let’s be real.  We need to be updated but not hour by hour - so give yourself 20 – 30 min for a news update– you pick the time – but do this once a day.  We know the situation will get worse before it gets better; we know the positive cases will rise, etc.  What we are searching for – an inkling of information about when we think this might all get better or end – is likely not news we will have for a while.  So, step away. Keeping our brains on overdrive with the same (or slightly changing) information is exactly what is creating anxiety and knockdown drag outs over toilet papers. We should, however, buy stock in Proctor & Gamble.

If you have kids at home, role model healthy behaviors by stepping away from the media so they can see this is a healthy option for them, too.

Part 2 – HHM Giving to Others Challenge - #1 – Research shows that gratitude and doing for others serves us well when we are experiencing stress and anxiety.  So today, reach out to two people who might need a pick me up.  Call, text, write an old school card or letter (yes – they still make stamps).  Check in and give your attention to someone else who might need it so you can get outta your head and into your heart.

In it to Win It Donation– I am kicking around a monetary donation of significance for those who participate and comment about each challenge daily – likely a donation to your charity of choice – but let’s first see who wants to participate!
